Electrodiagnostic Medicine Consultations (EMGs)

An EMG is a diagnostic study focusing on evaluating neuromuscular conditions. The purpose of the study is to determine if there is any dysfunction involving the cervical or lumbar nerve roots, plexus and peripheral nerve roots as well is evaluating the muscles they supply. Common symptoms you will be referred for this study include numbness and tingling in the extremities, burning in the feet, cervical and lumbar pain with radiation down the extremities, muscle weakness or muscular pain. Common conditions that are evaluated with EMG studies include carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, cervical or lumbar disc herniations causing sciatica or radiculopathy, peripheral neuropathy, tarsal tunnel syndrome and brachial plexopathies to name a few.

Nonoperative Spine and Musculoskeletal Pain Management

We specialize in thorough evaluations and comprehensive consultations for patients with acute/subacute pain conditions affecting the spine and musculoskeletal system. Dr. Agana is Subspecialty Board certified in Pain Medicine through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2003. Our emphasis is on establishing a diagnosis for painful conditions utilizing diagnostics such as EMG and specific injections as well as comprehensive examination and available imaging studies and targeting treatment that includes interventional pain management, directed physical therapy prescriptions and pharmacologic modulation. Interventional methods include steroid injections, joint injections, trigger point injections, regenerative injection therapies if applicable and radiofrequency procedures if applicable. Fluoroscopic guidance and/or ultrasound imaging guidance can be utilized if applicable. Such procedures can be performed in office or at various outpatient surgical centers as required.

Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation

Inpatient rehabilitation refers to comprehensive physician management of patients hospitalized at a rehabilitation facility receiving physical and occupational therapy. Patients will typically require these services after catastrophic injuries such as Traumatic Brain Injury or Spinal Cord Injury. Patients may also require the services after other events such as Cerebrovascular Accidents/strokes, amputations, orthopedic injuries such as spinal or hip fracture requiring surgical management etc. Patients may also require such services after prolonged hospitalizations from infections like pneumonia or urinary tract infection, falls at home resulting in injuries that have been treated nonoperatively but continue to have pain and weakness and result in general deconditioning.
